Iced filter coffee takes the same decoction you'd use for a hot tumbler of kaapi and turns it into a refreshing cold drink — no special equipment needed beyond what's already in most South Indian kitchens.
Ingredients (Serves 1)
- 3–4 tbsp strong filter coffee decoction
- 150ml cold milk
- 1–2 tsp sugar (adjust to taste)
- A handful of ice cubes
Method
- Brew your filter coffee decoction slightly stronger than your usual hot cup, since the ice will dilute it.
- Dissolve sugar into the warm decoction while it's still hot, then let it cool to room temperature.
- Combine the cooled decoction, cold milk, and sugar in a shaker or a jar with a tight lid, and shake well for 15–20 seconds.
- Fill a tall glass with ice and pour the shaken coffee over it.
- Serve immediately, stirring once before drinking.
FAQs
Can I use regular filter coffee decoction for iced coffee?
Yes — just brew it a bit stronger than usual to account for the ice diluting it.
Should I use hot or cold milk?
Cold milk works best for flavor and for keeping the drink properly chilled.
How do I get a frothy top?
Shake the decoction, milk, and sugar together before pouring over ice.
